Innovest Systems Innovest Sponsors Ray Johnston at Denver Golfers Against Cancer Event
Denver, August 24, 2012 – The 4th Annual Golfers Against Cancer (GAC) event held on July 29th and 30th was a huge success! The event kicked off Sunday night with the Gala at the Marriott South at Park Meadows featuring a silent and live auction and entertainment by Ray Johnston. Thanks to the sponsorship of Innovest Systems, the crowd was treated to a moving story about how new cancer treatments have been able to let Ray pursue his passion of music. After performing for the event, Ray had an audition for The Voice the following day. GAC also honored Dani Urman, a Cherry Creek High School student who has battled cancer and fulfilled her goal to play on her high school golf team. Both Ray and Dani are the reason Golfers Against Cancer continues our work to help find a cure for cancer. The Gala was followed by the GO Subaru Celebrity/Pro-Am Golf Tournament July 30th at Pinehurst Country Club. It was a beautiful day for golf and the participants of the sold out tournament had a great time. Derek Armstrong, the coach of the new CHL Cutthroats hockey team and former NHL player said, "This is one of the best and well run events I have participated in." Mark Randall, Denver Nuggets Community Ambassador and former player said, "This organization knows how to do it right and their mission to raise money for cancer is right on." The current estimate on funds raised for both events will total around $95,000. Funds will be allocated to cancer projects at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. With this year's donation, Denver Golfers Against Cancer will have contributed over $300,000 in total. Funds donated in the first three years have helped to generate over $3,000,000 in additional federal grants. GAC is a national organization founded in 1997 by a group of Houston golfers who lost two close friends to cancer. Motivated to raise money for cancer research, they created an annual golf tournament with a live and silent auction, with proceeds going to fund grants for local cancer researchers. Three years ago Denverite Scott Pearson established the Denver chapter. GAC has raised over $24 million nationwide to fund cancer research. Golfers Against Cancer is unique in that it funds research projects that are in the early stages of development and would not normally qualify for federal funding. Funding for these grants is raised at the Gala and Celebrity/Pro-Am Golf Tournament. Another way to support GAC is to purchase a virtual brick in honor or memory of a friend or family member who has been affected by cancer. You can purchase a brick by going to the website atwww.denvergolfersagainstcancer.org and clicking on purchase a brick.
